Burns by Diplomatic Bag | 11-04-2003 |
Burns Cottage was proud to receive a new Mongolian translation of the works of Robert Burns, by Professor S Dondog of the National University of Mongolia. The poems were presented to Her Majesty's Ambassador in Ulaanbaatar, Mr Phil Rouse, who shipped them, by hand of the Queen's Messenger and the Diplomatic Bag, to Burns Cottage.
It is not the first time that Burns' work has been the content of Diplomatic Bag. During the Napoleonic Wars, Burns' music and songs were shipped by Diplomatic Bag to the courts of Europe, so that composers such as Haydn and Beethoven could make new arrangements of the much-demanded Scottish tunes
Burns National Heritage Park director, Nat Edwards said,
This is a wonderful addition to our collection. It shows once again how the works of Burns can continue to touch the hearts and imaginations of people across the world and that, during these divided times, there are still lessons to be learned from Burns about universal brotherhood.
