Robert Burns' trusty Cronies
And at his elbow, Souter Johnie,
His ancient, trusty, drouthy cronie:
Tam lo'ed him like a very brither;
They had been fou for weeks thegither.
 Some of the most remarkable early 19th century Scottish genre art was produced by the self-taught sculptor, James Thom, when he created life-sized statues of Robert Burns' cronies; Tam o'Shanter, Souter Johnie and Nanse Tinnock (the proprietress of an alehouse in Mauchline much frequented by Burns and his friends).
The statues, originally toured to raise funds for Burns Monument, are now housed in a statue house in the Monument gardens.
