New Plans Unveiled 13/10/2003
Following a Project Planning Grant from the Heritage Lottery Fund, Burns National Heritage Park has submitted bold new plans for the development of the Burns Cottage site at Alloway. Created by a design team including local architects Carricks, Stirling Award nominees Sutherland Hussey and Graven Images, the proposed 7 million-pound development of the site envisages opening up the whole of the historic Burnes' lands owned by the Burns Monument Trust and creating a modern new building to safely house its un-matched Burns Collection.
The new development will have a state of the art conservation unit, temporary exhibition area and exciting new permanent galleries. It will also have a dedicated education centre, which has been designed with the help of a group of local teachers. A short presentation of the new plans can be seen by clicking on the following link: museum presentation. Funding applications have been submitted to Strathclyde European Partnership, the Heritage Lottery Fund and Scottish Enterprise Ayrshire, to fund the balance of the project, which is already supported by the Burns Monument Trust and South Ayrshire Council, as well as the fund-raising efforts of the Friends of Burns National Heritage Park. Burns National Heritage Pak hopes to hear early in the new year that the funds have been agreed and work will then begin preparing formal planning applictions and the tender for the main contract. |
