Plans for Cottage Museum 05/04/2002
This is how the new £2 million-plus Burns Cottage Museum at Alloway may look. Funding for the development is currently the subject of a bid by Burns National Heritage Park board to the Heritage Lottery Fund.
Recent investigations have shown that the roof of the historic cottage requires to be replaced, as water penetration has been responsible for damage to exhibits, including the unique Burns family bible.
However, park director Nat Edwards has insisted that the entire complex requires to be upgraded - especially with the 250th anniversary of the poet's birth only seven years away. And he wants to ensure that the centrepiece of the park - the cottage and museum - are fit to receive the interest the anniversary will attract.
Plans are currently on display at the Tam O' Shanter Experience in Alloway, and there will be a public meeting on the proposed development in Ayr's Carnegie Library at 8pm on Wednesday, April 24.
